ROMANS 2:7, 28, 29 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and inmortality, eternal life. For he is not a Jew (believer) who is one outwardly (religious form); but he is a Jew (believer) which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
We who are called believers are continually accountable for learning and maintaining contrite, seeking heart attitudes; ready to repent at the conviction of the preaching of elders God has given us to oversee us on our journey. As we have all come to the Lord from the world and it’s ways, we all have a desperate need to submit ourselves to God’s right order established through the Body of Christ. The continual renewing of the heart and mind gradually, but faithfully, brings the good fruit that the Lord is seeking from his children.
There is a broad way that men will sometimes choose to travel that leads to destruction, and there is the narrow way that leads to life. To continue to believe that we can find salvation on the broad path is deception, and must be repented of. While it is true that God is love, we must realize that God is also justice and righteousness, and offers salvation only by obedience to his gospel. Many prodigal sons suffer tribulation for their insistence on going their own way, but our heavenly Father is continually waiting and watching for his prodigals to come home, repentant, and ready to start over. Blessings are stored up and waiting.
